Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers essential nursing care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. This role involves performing routine clinical tasks, monitoring patient health, and providing direct patient care. LPNs play a vital role in supporting patient recovery, comfort, and overall well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide basic nursing care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with personal hygiene.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and authorized by state regulations.
• Monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
• Observe patients for changes in condition, including symptoms, behavior, and physical status, and report any significant findings to the supervising RN or physician.
• Accurately document patient care, observations, and treatments in medical records.
• Maintain clear communication with the healthcare team, providing updates on patient progress and any concerns.
• Educate patients and their families on care techniques, medications, and lifestyle changes to support recovery and health maintenance.
• Provide emotional support to patients and their families, helping them understand and manage their health conditions.
• Work closely with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care to patients.
• Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, ensuring a smooth transition of care.

Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited LPN/LVN program.
• Current LPN/LVN license in the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is often required.
• Strong clinical skills and knowledge of nursing practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting, moving patients, and standing for long periods.

Work Environment:

• Licensed Practical Nurses work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and private homes.
• The role involves direct patient care and may require physical activities such as lifting, moving patients, and assisting with mobility.
• LPNs may work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the healthcare facility.
